Andrew Morton joins PsychArmor Strategic Communications Team

Morton brings 30 years of service and experience within the military community, veteran employment / transition initiatives and mental health space

San Diego, CA--PsychArmor is pleased to announce the addition of Andrew Morton to our Strategic Communications team in the role of External Relations.  Morton, a retired Army Officer, has spent much of the last decade focused on veterans’ employment and transition initiatives across various roles at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).  As part of his role he has served on various boards and advisory commissions across the Department of Labor, Veterans Services Organizations, and the private sector focused on military community employment, retention, and inclusive work-place practices.  Currently, Morton is completing the final clinical portion of his Masters in Mental Health Counseling (College of William and Mary) serving as a therapist-intern within the Veterans Administration.

Morton’s extensive communications experience during his military and civilian career, recent clinical and academic training in behavioral health, and first-person journey within the military community positions him to serve PsychAmor’s continued growth across multiple initiatives. With a unique combination of competencies and experience he will foster continued education–and the resulting cultural competency–within communities, corporations and employers.

While workforce development training programs are certainly a vital part of successful Veteran and military family transition, Morton’s work within this space goes beyond skill-set training and addresses the development of what he describes as “culture and mind-set growth initiatives.”  As contributing author to the late Justin Constantine’s book From We Will to At Will- A Handbook for Veteran Hiring, Transitioning, and Thriving in the Workplace, he and Constantine addressed the challenge of that cultural shift from the military community as well as the mutually-shared responsibility to close that gap in understanding through individual and organizational-level awareness.

“The opportunity to continue to serve Veterans at the individual and family-level as a therapist, and through advocacy and awareness in my role at PsychArmor is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give back and continue to grow,” says Morton.

PsychArmor is a leading national nonprofit and preferred training provider which specializes in military cultural awareness and competency. Its offerings include online courses, curricula, podcasts, webinars, live speaking engagements, and social media.

“At the heart of PsychArmor's mission is our goal to build a better understanding of the military community while also fostering the cultural growth that benefits  transitioning members of the military.” says PsychArmor CEO Dr. Tina Atherall. “Andrew’s insights and expertise will directly and positively impact both parts of this mission as we focus on improved outcomes for the military-affiliated communities we serve.”
